OF FLOWERS AND FRAGRANCE
June 18, 2009
A seductive fragrance
emanates
from rose petals, gladiolle
ensconced
in a bouquet
a delightful exuberance
of unchecked mirth
celebration of birth
a ceremony of joy
A season of toys.
A scent
of profound grief
surrounds
the silent walls
tear-stained faces
vacant eyes
hollow cheeks
stare at a
lifeless limb
in a satin sheet
the pain of separation
it isn’t a celebration
flowers, albeit an attraction
are also, the ultimate contradiction.
